Well,it's not exactly a guitar a...errr..it's a toilet seat!!
This is an absolutely true story:
I was out on my daily afternoon walk and a guy I know pulls up along side me in his car,rolls down the window and says "Can you make a toilet seat?" So I said"yeah,I
can make anything" (I'm very modest,right).
He bought a 100 year old toilet that he installed in hi newly renovated house and couldn't find a seat to fit it's odd shape.
So for $60 an hour plus materials he agreed.
Probably about 8 hrs of work-$75 materials
$550. for a toilet seat!!!

And all along I thought my calling was guitars. Maybe I missed something. I didn't even know there was a market for custom toilet seats!

Great opportunites for inlay as well. Hmmm....Congradulations Brad! Some day for fun I will have to make a custom toilet seat. Use up my exotic wood scraps and inlay it to the hilt. This is starting to sound fun.

All right guys fun is fun but I take this seat making very seriously.
I consider myself an arteest! I can finally call myself a "seatier"!!
Seat making is steeped in tradition- much more like violinmaking than guitarmaking.
This art was handed down from the Stradivarius of seat making-the legendary John Crapper!
I know there are two camps of joinery out there,the bolt on and the glue joint.I definately KNOW the glue on is the best because it gives better sound transmission.
This debate can go on forever.There is no right or wrong. One seat can feel "right" to one person and be uncomfortable to the next.

What kind of finish are you going to use?

I once saw a toilet seat--with lid--with a Fender neck attached. The builder called it a "Pottycaster".

There was repair guy in our area that a friend of mine used to use alot. He was an older gentleman (years ago, Mr.Manfredi) and a great repairman. Very friendly and full of advice. We were at his house one day and my friend mentioned the "toilet" guitars and the fact that I had never seen them. I was wondering "what the heck kind of joke is this?" Sure enough out came five (I think) diffrent color guitars made out of toilet seats! Unreal, cool and very playable. They were made in Danelctro fashion and I beleive he used Danelectro necks and pickups for them. This thread brought back a great memory for me that I'll never forget! Thanks Brad...and good luck with your new buisness!
